Mark A. Michaels and his wife and creative collaborator Patricia Johnson have won numerous awards for their work. Michaels and Johnson are the authors of Partners in Passion: A Guide to Great Sex, Emotional Intimacy and Long-Term Love (Cleis Press, 2014), Great Sex Made Simple: Tantric Tips to Deepen Intimacy and Heighten Pleasure (Llewellyn, 2012), Tantra for Erotic Empowerment: The Key to Enriching Your Sexual Life (Llewellyn 2008), and The Essence of Tantric Sexuality (Llewellyn, 2006). They are the creators of a meditation CD set, Ananda Nidra: Blissful Sleep (Projekt Records, 2011, Finalist: COVR Visionary Award). They are senior students of Tantric pioneer Dr. Jonn Mumford (Swami Anandakapila Saraswati) who has named them his lineage holders for the Americas and Europe. In addition, the two are co-founders of the Pleasure Salon, a monthly gathering in New York City that brings together sex-positive people and pleasure activists from a variety of communities.
Michaels and Johnson have taught and throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe and Australia. Michaels is a graduate of New York University School of Law and holds master’s degrees in American Studies from NYU and Yale. A playwright and translator, he translated and adapted Goldoni’s The Mistress of the Inn, for New York’s Roundabout Theatre company and co-wrote The Thrill of Victory, The Agony of Debate, which premiered at New York’s Primary Stages. He has a passion for wildlife, conservation, and the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. He currently serves on his hometown’s Advisory Committee on Open Space.
