AJ Renard

Pronouns: she/her

AJ Renard has been actively involved in the kink and BDSM world for the past 15+ years. As a former pro fetish model, she advocates for more diversity and inclusion in rope and kink spaces in general. After many years of being a BDSM and sexuality educator, AJ quit a successful career to return to graduate school for her Masters in order to better serve the kink community, and now works in the mental health field. In the kink and BDSM community, AJ primarily teaches classes concerning consent, negotiations, and Power Exchange relationship dynamics as well as bottoming skills, while in non-kink spaces (including authors groups, mental health professionals, social workers, and at universities) she teaches and works to dispel misconceptions about kink and BDSM.

Many people find release in pain and can effectively use it as a coping mechanism to manage anxiety, stress, chronic pain, and other challenges. Kinksters with a history of self-injurious behavior can often describe a large difference between self-injury and their masochism, particularly when it comes to how each activity impacts their mental health and self-image.
