Naushaba Patel

Naushaba Patel is an activist for queer women and trans rights who is passionate about having conservations around intersectionality, structural systems, sexuality and queerness. They work with Women and Trans programming at Houston’s LGBT Community Center, focusing on reducing health disparities and building intersectional spaces particularly centered around qtpoc (queer trans people of color) and queer disabled communities. Naushaba gained their Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University and their favorite activity is blowing bubbles in parks. As a queer Pakistani Muslim immigrant who has traveled and lived in multiple countries, Naushaba loves finding the human connection in every encounter, and also empathizes with the unique strengths, resilience and creativity that comes with navigating life with decentered identities.

In this workshop, we'd like to share lessons learned from 2 years of facilitating sexuality workshops centered on the experiences of communities of color, folks who are queer, trans and nonbinary, intersex, disabled, fat, undocumented, sex workers, nonmonogamous, asexual, immigrants, members of religious minorities, and folks with trauma backgrounds.
