Gender euphoria as a diagnostic and treatment tool

August 16 @ 10:45 am - 12:15 pm

Presenter: Andrew Triska

As professionals who work with trans/gender variant clients (or who want to work with such clients), we are generally familiar with the DSM-V diagnosis of gender dysphoria and the WPATH guidelines and the history of (and controversies surrounding) these guidelines. However, clinicians are typically taught to view the trans/gender variant experience in terms of distress, using words like "discomfort" or "unease" to characterize clients' experiences with their assigned gender. While many of our clients' experiences match these descriptors, some --…

The Challenges of Male Provider Mobilization

August 16 @ 2:45 pm - 4:15 pm

Presenters: Shaan Lashun, TT Baum

As members of the sex workers rights community themselves, Shaan Lashun and TTBaum are no strangers to the inherent differences of working in the sex industry between (T)M4M and F4M providers. (T)M4M providers have traditionally been overlooked, if not completely ignored, in conversations about sex worker rights. Few providers are willing to speak publicly about their experiences, presenting huge challenges to organizing “male”-identified sex workers into peer support groups and sex worker rights activist blocks. The lack of engagement seems…

As this process takes place a particular question about sexuality arises: How has pornography impacted our conception of race and identity and what is the…

A Multi-Faith Theology on Moving Beyond Intimate Partner ViolenceWhen it comes to dealing with intimate partner violence within scripture and Abrahamic faith communities, responses are often limited by heterosexism, patriarchy and a lack of liberation theologies. Mama’s of Color and Mental Health: The harm of state intervention via the Child Protection System

August 17 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Presenters: Fallon Speaker, Esq., Morgan Hill, LMSW

There is an urgent need for the sexual reproductive health profession to expand our views on maternal mental health. As social and racial justice advocates, many folks in the field understand the ways in which the state can unjustly surveil, order and criminalize people of color at alarming rates. However, little attention is paid to the ways in which the child protection system disproportionally surveils and criminalizes women of color and their children. This presentation invites participants to reflect on…
