Get Your Money & Go: On Securing and Demanding Financial Resources for Your Sex Positive Project
August 16 @ 2:45 pm - 4:15 pm
You know your project is important, but how are you going to fund it? So many of us are uncomfortable talking about money and resources especially coming from targeted communities that are often denied the resources we need. In this session, we will talk about ways to use the grant system to get what you need for your project, as well as direct methodologies on how to approach potential funders that may need a lesson on showing up and being accountable to trans folks, Black & Brown folks and other communities.
Through sample grant applications and organizing tools, letter samples and case studies, presenters will take participants through the process of advocating financial resources. Participants will be able to go through a sample grant and ask questions of a funder directly as well as hear from presenters that also funded their project through direct asks to foundations and donors even when a grant was not written to include their work. This session seeks to break down barriers that cause many of us fear in assuming how we are supposed to engage a funding body that sometimes needs to be coached into being accountable to the very communities they say they care about. We will provide usable language and strategy for these situations and seek to empower our communities to demand what we need from the very folks that have it.
