The Crisis is Now: How You Can Make a Difference in the Fight for Global Health & Rights
August 17, 2019 @ 2:45 pm - 4:15 pm
The reproductive and sexual rights and health of people worldwide is in peril. But you can help address this crisis, here’s how:
In December, The Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE), in partnership with the Global Women’s Institute at the George Washington University, created the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Index: Grading U.S. Global Health Assistance.
This first‐of‐its‐kind index critically assesses the U.S. government’s work on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in global health assistance and holds it accountable to its commitment on SRHR by producing an annual grade. Through an annual review of data and policy, the SRHR Index provides public access to information from across U.S. government agencies and health funding silos related to support for global SRHR. The SRHR Index grades commitments, leadership at the executive level, and funding levels and actions across a comprehensive set of SRHR issues.
How do U.S. global health policies reflect the needs and rights of female sex workers, indigenous women, and LGBTI populations? Does U.S. global health policy reflect sexual rights and pleasure? Come interact with the SRHR Index and learn from experts working to advance the SRHR of all people to find out the answers.
The methodology of the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Index is rigorously designed to be sensitive to and reflective of both negative actions contributing to restrictions on global sexual and reproductive health and rights and positive actions contributing to their expansion. This Index gives public access to information so that advocates can make specific, evidence-‐based recommendations to the U.S. government, and the government in turn can take action toward strengthening the impact of its global health assistance.
Let’s look ahead and move forward with collective action. We’ll highlight how CHANGE’s SRHR Index can help recommend evidence-‐based actions to the U.S. government to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.
