Transformative Justice: An Introduction
August 15 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
THIS INSTITUTE IS CAPPED AT 125 PARTICIPANTS. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.
How do we respond to violence within our own communities without relying on the police, prisons or other state systems in a way that helps us build the world we long for? Transformative justice (TJ) is a political framework and approach for responding to violence, harm and abuse. TJ is an abolitionist framework and at its most basic, TJ seeks to respond to violence without creating more violence.
This day-long institute will offer a basic introduction to and overview of the core concepts of transformative justice, as well as the concept of “pods.” It will be a space for participants to learn about transformative justice and how to begin thinking about community-based responses to violence. This institute is aimed at those new to TJ and community-based responses to violence, but of course any and all are welcome to attend.
PLEASE NOTE: This training will NOT prepare participants to be able to facilitate a TJ intervention.
