The author of two prize-winning books – Different Daughters: A History of the Daughters of Bilitis and the Rise of the Lesbian Rights Movement and “No One Helped”: Kitty Genovese, New York City, and the Myth of Urban Apathy) – Gallo also has published numerous articles, reviews, blogs, and podcasts on LGBTQ+ history; race, gender, and sexuality; and progressive activism. Prior to entering academia, she was the Field Director for the American Civil Liberties Union in San Francisco and also worked in philanthropy. She lives in New York City.
