Protecting Access to Abortion at the Ballot Box
October 28, 2026
We are less than one week away from midterm election day: November 3, 2026. Across the country, a slew of important human rights issues is on the line. According to a recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, most voters consider “the future of democracy (73%), healthcare (68%), education (62%), immigration (59%) and foreign policy (57%) as important to their vote.”
For voters in Nevada, a major healthcare issue is on the ballot: abortion. The ballot initiative known as “Question 6” would “constitutionally enshrine Nevada’s current law, which allows abortion for any reason up to 24 weeks into pregnancy.” Past 24 weeks into pregnancy, Nevada allows abortion to save the life or health of the pregnant person. Currently, Nevada’s law is vulnerable to changes in power. Should an anti-abortion majority win power in the state, they would be well-equipped to change the law. Ensuring that the current state law is incorporated into the constitution would ensure that, no matter who is in power, Nevadans have a protected right to abortion.
Nevada’s Question 6 is just one of the many abortion-related ballot initiatives nationwide. And we know there are many other initiatives folks care deeply about, such as those addressing LGBTQIA+ and immigrant rights. We at the Woodhull Freedom Foundation encourage you to get involved in the upcoming election, through voting and otherwise advocating for the issues you care about. We would love to hear from you about what is important to you in this election: What human rights issues are on your ballots? What state or local legislation is motivating your vote? Please write to us at [email protected] and put “Election 2026” in the subject line!
