We will not go back!!

November 14, 2016

In the days immediately after the stunning defeat of freedom, equality and justice that accompanies the election of Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States, the words of the quotation from Isoroku Yamamoto, commander-in-chief of the Japanese forces during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, come quickly to mind.

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

The sleeping giant is a focused and resolved American progressive movement. It has indeed been awoken. We have a terrible resolve that will shake the walls of the White House, of Congress, and of every institution where Trump’s terrible message penetrates and tries to prevail.

 I SUPPORT FREEDOM!

Resolve with us that no challenge to equality, no challenge to freedom, no challenge to our human rights, no challenge to justice will pass unremarked. No battleground will be left undefended and no roll-backs to the rights we’ve won over the past decades will be tolerated.

Trump’s platform engaged every bigot, every bully, and every chauvinist in this country. His promises/threats to punish women for accessing abortion, to roll back protections against discrimination, to restrict freedom of expression – which absolutely includes sexual expression – are not simply wrong-headed.  They are unlawful and unconstitutional. And they will not be tolerated.

We are a human rights organization and that means our fight is one that allows for broad engagement across all issues, all threatened communities and all imperiled identities.

Woodhull will be vigilant every single day, every single moment of the Trump administration and we will be ready, with your support, to take legal action, lobby at the Federal and state and local levels, and issue the clarion call to arms that our rights are being threatened.

We will be that terrible resolve awoken!

Please join and engage with us in building our resources to fight the threats to human rights that lie ahead!
